This self-paced online course prepares coaches, fitness professionals, therapists, club staff and volunteers to recognise and respond to injuries and medical emergencies in sport and physical activity settings. No previous first aid experience is required. Delivered through 3.5 hours of guided video learning across 7 modules, it covers the essential knowledge needed to assess casualties and provide appropriate care until professional help arrives. What you'll learn • Structured casualty assessment using the DR ABCDE approach. • Recognising the signs and symptoms of life-threatening conditions. • Effective CPR and AED (defibrillator) use in sport and fitness settings. • Managing an unresponsive casualty, airway emergencies and choking. • Concussion, suspected spinal injury and safe remove-from-play procedures. • Controlling severe bleeding; managing wounds, fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries. • Responding to common medical emergencies: asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetic emergencies, seizures, heat illness and hypothermia. • Communicating with emergency services and completing accurate incident records. • Duty of care, consent, safeguarding and infection control responsibilities. Course Aim To give sport and fitness professionals the knowledge and confidence to recognise injury and medical emergencies, and respond appropriately until professional medical assistance arrives. Practical Upgrade Available Learners wanting a certificate that includes practical assessment can attend a 2-hour supervised session, combining this theory course with hands-on training for a 5.5-hour blended qualification.
